Iyengar Yoga is named for yoga master B.K.S. IYENGAR (1918 – 2014). Called the “Michelangelo of yoga” and named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2004, Mr. Iyengar has been acknowledged as a modern master of yoga.
Iyengar Yoga is firmly rooted in the traditional eight limbs of yoga, as expounded by Patanjali in his classic treatise, The Yoga Sutras. The Iyengar practice method emphasizes the cultivation of self-knowledge primarily through Asana (yoga postures) and Pranayama (yogic breathing). In addition, attention is given to developing alignment, balance, strength, stamina, flexibility, concentration, and keen awareness.
Students of Iyengar Yoga are instructed on how to practice and are encouraged to develop their home practice. Iyengar Yoga offers a clear and grounded path to the holistic health of body, mind, and spirit.
"The decision to relax rather than to grip, even in the face of impatience or fear, is a conscious and brave choice.”
“Yoga allows you to find an inner peace that is not ruffled and riled by the endless stresses and struggles of life.”
"Attainment is when the body has been conquered, not forgotten. Persistent practice alone is the key to yoga.”
"The practice of asana removes obstructions, and makes the energy and intelligence flow everywhere, in every nook and corner of the body. As the body is the shrine of the soul, it has to be kept healthy, clean, and pure, as a heaven on earth."
"Health is like a diamond throwing light from different angles." - B.K.S.Iyengar
